Hour long delays on M6 as drivers face nine miles of tailbacks
Written by The Newsroom on July 31, 2019
There are hour long delays on the M6 this afternoon following a fuel spillage.
Two lanes have been closed on the southbound carriageway at J8 M5 due to a broken down lorry and diesel on the carriageway.
Delays of up to 60 minutes and tailbacks of nine miles long have left many drivers currently crawling along at just 5mph. Queues are backed up to J11 (Cannock).
Traffic on the opposite carriageway – between J7 and J8 – is also slow..
A clean up operation has been taking place for several hours by Highways England.
A spokesman said: “For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.
“If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may with to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.”
