Live updates – M6 chaos as fuel spillage causes nine mile tailbacks and long delays
Written by The Newsroom on July 31, 2019
Motorists are facing nine miles of tailbacks and hour long delays following a fuel spillage on the M6.
Two lanes have been closed on the southbound carriageway at J8 M5 due to a broken down lorry and diesel on the carriageway.
Frustrated drivers are currently crawling along at just 5mph in queues backed up to J11 (Cannock), with delays of up to 60 minutes expected.
Traffic on the opposite carriageway – between J7 and J8 – is also affected due to people slowing to look at the incident.
Highways England has advised motorists to expect disruption while the cleanup operation is under way.
A spokesman said: “For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.
“If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may with to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.”
