Tamworth set for Carnival party

Written by on May 30, 2019

Carnival fever is set to hit Tamworth once again this weekend.

Tamworth Carnival 2019 will take place on Saturday, June 1, and entry is free. The carnival starts at 12 noon from Apollo Road with the Mercian Band and Regiment leading the parade.

This year’s carnival queen is Lacey-Mae Hale. Brothers Taylor Jack Giles and Bailey Giles are the page boy and prince with Livvie Bishop maid of honour and Keira Collins is the princess.

There will be a family fun fair, carnival rides and games, dance troupes, Bibbledy Bob and much, much more in the Castle Grounds.

The B5 Road Locomotive from Statfold Barn will also be on show.

Ken Norchi, Together 4 Tamworth chairman, said: “I cannot explain how much I am looking forward to Saturday.

“There are no words! It is going to be a fabulous day and of course, with the weather looking like being on the bright side, that should encourage people, especially families, to come and enjoy themselves. Some fabulous people are coming to entertain everybody and it is just going to be one big buzz of fun and enjoyment which is what the carnival is all about.”

Asked how much he was looking forward to Saturday event organiser Gary Hunt beamed: “On a scale of one to ten… a million!

“We are Together 4 Tamworth and that is exactly what we are all about, bringing Tamworth together.

“Planning for this event has been going on ever since the last one and we have been raising money to fund it over the last 12 months.

“I was born and bred in Tamworth and I have seen carnivals come and go but this one is going to be an experience any child or older person will always remember. There is going to be an array of people smiling, laughing and having fun.

“The amount of people that have volunteered to give up their time free of charge, everyone has worked so hard and it really does mean a lot because we wouldn’t get anywhere without them.

“The community spirit is amazing. It makes me proud to be a Tammie.”
