Two men are in custody thanks to the quick work of officers and the nose of a police dog.

Residents at a house on Greenfield Road on the Wildwood estate in Stafford were awoken at around 4.30am today (Wednesday) by the sound of two men stealing lead from the roof of their property.

Officers attended quickly along with police dog Tizzy and her handler. Within minutes Tizzy tracked one of the suspects to the rear of a nearby shop where a 29 year-old man was detained.

Tizzy continued to track and a few minutes later the second suspect, a 31 year-old man, was arrested. Both men are now in custody awaiting questioning.

Deputy Neighbourhood Policing Unit Commander, Sgt Nick Maingay said: “Officers were able to respond quickly to this call while the suspects were still in the area. Tizzy was able to lead the officers to them so they could be detained.

“This was a really good example of team work resulting in the arrest of two suspects.”
