Ji So-yun’s stunning early free-kick gave Chelsea the lead before defender Millie Bright doubled their advantage.

Bright then set up forward Bethany England on the stroke of half-time as Emma Hayes’ side impressed in front of England Women’s boss Phil Neville.

Drew Spence netted twice shortly after the restart before England grabbed her second to complete the scoring.

Chelsea’s victory was their biggest WSL win since thrashing Yeovil Town 8-0 in May and leaves them a point clear of both Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Londoners were already in control at the break, but Spence’s goals put the result beyond doubt, first calmly slotting home after a deft touch from England before heading a Ji cross beyond Birmingham keeper Hannah Hampton.
