Young man from Staffordshire dies after crash near Aston Villa training ground

A man has died after a crash near the Aston Villa training ground.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the man was seriously injured when his silver Yamaha scooter collided with a grey Ford Ranger, at the junction of the A4091 and Bodymoor Heath Lane, in Sutton Coldfield, at 10.15pm on Monday (June 3).

The 21-year-old, from Tamworth, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but sadly died this morning (Wednesday, June 5), reports Birmingham Live .

The Serious Collision Investigation Team from Warwickshire Police are appealing to anyone who saw the fatal incident or who may have dashcam footage to contact them urgently.

A force statement said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at approximately 10.15pm on Monday 3 June 2019 in Sutton Coldfield.

“The collision occurred on the A4091 at the junction with Bodymoor Heath Lane, Sutton Coldfield and involved a Grey Ford Ranger and a Silver Yamaha Scooter.

“The rider of the scooter, a 21 year old man from Tamworth suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical staff he died in hospital this morning (5th June 2019) and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”
